  • Summary: cheap case
  • Comment: The good news is that these dvds seem to work as good as any I've tried.

The annoying part is that they do not come in a case or box, once you peel the plastic paper from around the side, the blank media has a top and bottom to protect them, but no sides. Of course this is a money saving package, but if you only use these dvds occasionally, the sides will be exposed to dust or dings.

I would prefer them to be protected in a box or a case. I will probably buy a different brand the next time I buy dvds.

  • Summary: blank DVD-R
  • Comment: For my home video collection I have transfered all my home made movies to DVD's. At the time I have selected TDK DVD-R. I did not realise it, but all my recordings were faulty, I could not view them on my PC, etc. I have wasted many hours without knowing it.
I have re-recorded them on MEMOREX 4.7Gb/16x and I do not have any problem as of now.
Obviously, many stores sell blank DVD-R and the idea is to find the cheapest DVD's around. I've looked at Office Depot, Staples, Best Buy, Radio Shack, Walmart, Target and many other stores. I have compared the prices. Some sites sell the DVD's for a little less money but get you on the shipping, handling and state taxes. Others are a little bit more expensive but the shipment is free. I've found that the cheapest way is to buy Memorex 100-Pack Spindle from the site above. I am happy with my purchase and I do recommend it to other people. It is not the blank DVD selling price that it is important but the $ per DVD when you got them in your hands.

  • Summary: Always Work
  • Comment: Over the past couple years, I have used 400-500 Memorex DVD-R/+R's, and I've had maybe 2 bad burns. They always work great, and they're less expensive than many other brands.

  • Summary: Memorex works fine
  • Comment: I am surprised to find so many negative reviews about Memorex. I have been using Memorex CDs and DVDs exclusively for almost a decade. Apart from a few discs here and there, its been a great experience. Some points about how I use them:
1- I never let any software (e.g DVD authoring s/w like Ulead or Roxio) directly burn to disc. I create a DVD folder and then I always use Nero for burning disc.
2- If you're burning disc for long-term storage, burn at a slower speed, so there's no chance of any skipping. I always burn at 4x, someimes 8x.
A few precautions (best practices) go a long way towards avoiding problems. All I can say is that every single disc from years ago still works, to the best of my knowledge. As I mentioned before, I have been using Memorex for storing precious memories for years. I find them a great value for money.
